Hello! All of the art I chose today is from Singapore. I have always wanted to visit Singapore, and I  adore the film Crazy Rich Asians.  The movie's plot is based in Singapore, inspiring me to present art from this country.    Drying Salted Fish by Cheong Soo Pieng: This painting depicts a group of Malay villagers processing and drying salted fish. It was completed in 1978 using  Chinese ink and color on cloth, rendered in the region’s unique Nanyang style, which blends Chinese and Western artistic traditions. Cheong Soo Pieng pioneered the Nanyang style and is considered one of Singapore’s most important artists. He was awarded the Cultural  Medallion in 1982  Nationl Language Class is an oil painting by Chua Mia Tee, completed in 1959. Art about War                                                            I chose to really focus on the Vietnam War.   "Vietnam II" by Leon Golub was created in 1973. As for the location, Golub was living and working in New York City at the time, so it's possible that he painted it there. The Burnt Man painting by Leon Golub was made in 1964 and is currently displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago in the United States. Romantic Era Blog

During the 1800s, two major art movements emerged that greatly influenced the art world: Romanticism and Realism. Romanticism was characterized by its focus on emotion, imagination, and individualism, while Realism was marked by a desire to depict the world as it truly was, without idealization or embellishment. Both movements sought to capture the essence of their respective subjects, but through vastly different approaches. Romantic artists often depicted fantastical and dreamlike scenes, while Realist artists aimed to represent reality as accurately as possible. Despite their differences, both Romanticism and Realism had a significant impact on the art world and continue to be studied and appreciated today.  I prefer romanticism art from the  1800s over realism because of the uniqueness and the beauty it brought during its time Romantic Art The painting "Ophelia by John Everett Millais, made in 1851-1852, is a masterpiece that effectively employs various art eleme...

Art & Scientific Discovery

Image
In the 1700s, there was a great interest in art and scientific discoveries. This was known as the Age of Enlightenment, a time when people were curious about the world around them and sought to understand it through reason and observation. At the same time, artists were creating works that reflected the new ideas and discoveries of the time. Paintings and sculptures depicted the natural world in a way that was both beautiful and scientific. This period was marked by a spirit of inquiry and a desire to understand the world in a new way, and it laid the foundation for many of the advances that we enjoy today.      The painting   The Alchemist Discovering Phosphorus or the original name “ the alchemist in Serach of the Philosopher Stone,”  Made in 1771 by Joseph Wright of Derby is a prime example of how scientific discoveries in the 1700s influenced art. The painting depicts an alchemist in his laboratory, discovering the element phosphorus th...

Artemisia Gentileschi

Image
The painting "Judith Slaying Holofernes" by  Artemisia Gentileschi is a powerful and heroic portrayal of the biblical story of Judith, a Jewish widow, who saved her city from the Assyrian general Holofernes. Gentileschi's masterful use of light and shadow creates a sense of tension and drama, making this artwork a true masterpiece. The painting has been interpreted in various ways, with some seeing it as a feminist statement on women's power and agency, while others see it as a representation of the triumph of virtue over vice. Regardless of the interpretation, this powerful work of art inspires us to see the world through a different lens and appreciate the impact and significance of art on our lives.       The painting  "Judith Slaying Holofernes" was created in the 17th century, which was a time of significant religious and political upheaval in Europe. The Council of Trent  a series of meetings held between 1545 and 1563, was ...

Italian Renaissance

Have you ever wondered why the Mona Lisa  is so famous? The Mona Lisa  is housed in the Louvre Museum in Pairs Frace.  It was painted by the famous  Leonardo da Vinci  between 1503 and 1519.  She was made to be a regular portrait, so this painting is of a small statue. The most notable part of this painting is her smile. However, many artistry techniques in this piece weren't even around during his time. Overall, this art was inspired by humanism.        Leonardo was a student of Human Anatomy. This was actually illegal back in the Renaissance Era. He wanted to be a master of the human form so bad that Da Vinci actually dissected human remains to learn about the muscles and shapes of the face. This means that he risked his life robbing graves.  He also created techniques such as Sfumoto, in which he blends color to make such realism. Da Vinci also mastered the art of perspective in the Mona Lisa's anatomy a...

My Art analysis

Image
This piece is  Street Light Painting  by Tai Meng Lim, created in 2017. He is a  freelance artist born in 1976 and is from Malaysia. I found his artwork by looking at pictures of paintings on Google, and this one caught my attention. One element I love about this is the texture. I love oil paintings and the way they feel on the canvas. Oil paintings create bumps and valleys due to their medium. This also makes them more resistant to wear and tear than other paintings.  I feel like oil paintings are best used to capture landscapes because they can add a particular "chef's kiss" to the overall picture.     Another element I love about this painting is color. This image uses yellow and white colors to give it light. I also love how he captured the light reflecting off tree leaves to show us a dark green color and how it reflects off the ground to show us he is walking on a cement sidewalk. The artist also incorporated the elements of sp...
